Summer Skincare Tips for Busy Moms
Limited on time or don’t want to stress about multi-step skincare routines? Paring down to the essentials gets the job done while also keeping skin protected from summertime culprits like sun exposure and sweat.
Sunscreen is a must. Exposure to summer sun can leave skin vulnerable to melasma, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage. Regardless of the weather, always use a sunscreen or moisturizer with sunscreen in your morning routine. An SPF of 30 and above is recommended, and should be applied every couple of hours for maximum protection.
Keep makeup simple! Instead of going with the usual cosmetics, simplify your routine by using multi-purpose products. A skin tint offers coverage without looking cakey and works well with heat and humidity. A bronzer stick can be used as contour and to add a bit of color on the eyelids.
Use non-comedogenic products. The key to healthy skin is keeping pores clean. Because skin is more prone to buildup of sweat and makeup during summer months, make sure you’re using products labeled non-comedogenic, which means it won’t clog pores. Dealing with breakouts or acne? Look for cleansers with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to remove gunk and eradicate acne-causing bacteria.
Exfoliate weekly. If your skin is looking a bit dull, it could use an exfoliation. Two times weekly, add a chemical exfoliation (alpha hydroxy acid) to your nighttime routine and once a week, consider using a physical exfoliant to remove dead, built-up skin cells from your face and neck to reveal fresh skin.
Important: Fresh skin cells are especially vulnerable to sun exposure, making sunscreen use essential in morning routines.
